[X&Y] The "Reality Inventory" Is Really A Reality Check...

SCOT MCKAY'S DAILY TIPS FOR SUCCESS WITH WOMEN

THE "REALITY INVENTORY" IS ACTUALLY A REALITY CHECK

Yesterday I sent you a brand new (and quick, easy, and free) survey.

It caught a lot of guys off guard.

It's amazing how disruptive ten quick questions can be, but the "reason why" behind the survey is elegantly simple: I've seen a clear pattern lately of men's perceptions, emotions and even actions clashing with the objective reality in front of them.

Some of the most costly mistakes men make aren't about being in a bad situation. They're about misreading which situation they're actually in.

Consider this: a man is struggling. His relationship is rocky or he's going through a "dry spell" with women in general. Or his career feels stale, his social life has dried up. He looks at all of it and concludes the whole thing needs to be torn down and rebuilt from scratch. Nuclear option. Blow it all up and start over.

But what if that's an overcorrection? What if what he actually needs is to step back, get a fresh perspective, and take a new approach? What if there was real purpose and genuine satisfaction hiding there in plain sight, and he burned it all down before he ever found it?

That transcends the realm of a mere "tactical error". It would be strategically tragic.

Or get this... The exact opposite might be going on.

Another man is actually in a genuinely dire situation. The relationship is broken beyond repair; she may already be gone. The career is a dead end and he dreads the daily grind. The life he's living belongs to someone else.

But he keeps trying to look at it differently, find the angle that makes it work, reframe his way to peace and fulfillment with something that deserves to be left behind.

Why? Because moving on feels like quitting. And he's not a quitter.

Except stubbornness isn't the same as perseverance. And everyone around him can see what he can't: that what's needed isn't a new perspective. It's a new life.

Both men are suffering. But they're suffering in opposite directions from the truth.

So what's the question that cuts through all of it?

It's simple, if not easy:

Is there light at the end of the tunnel?

A dim light might just need a Reframe or a Reset, that shift in thinking or behavior that lets what's already there finally breathe. That kind of change takes real effort, but the foundation is worth building on.

But when it's pitch dark through the whole tunnel? That's when brutal honesty isn't optional. That's when the kindest and most courageous thing you can do for yourself is admit that Rebuild or Reinvention is what's called for, and get moving.

This is the kind of clarity that coaching delivers. You don't need a cheerleader or a "yes man".

We're talking about an honest read on where you are, and what the situation actually calls for...all from someone who's seen the patterns before, knows what the solution could look like, and isn't emotionally invested in telling you what you want to hear.
