DRILLING HOLES IN MATTRESSES


You know, I've seen an unusual number of scathing, super-
pessimistic and even downright hateful comments directed at
women in general from guys over the past 48 hours or so.

Not necessarily from you guys, mind you. 

One example was in response to an article I wrote for a website
on what women want, another was a somewhat out-of-the-blue rant
in the comments at the end of a sports story (of all things).
 
Especially poignant was an email from a guy that was sent to one of
the few female dating coaches out there I know to be REALLY, TRULY
pro-guy.

She's given her career to helping guys succeed with women, and yet
this guy basically took out all of his frustrations and general
misogyny on her in a VERY personal and hurtful attack, even going
so far as to insult her appearance.

This all occurs to me as ironic, given that we as men are generally
sexually attracted to some members of this same gender we're
blasting away at.

Guys...listen up.  Women are NOT the enemy.  If you live in the
United States, you've got Thanksgiving coming up next week.

You can and should be thankful that there are both Xs and Ys running
around this planet. 

Now, if your first inclination was to flip me "the bird" after
reading that last sentence then, hey...I just might have had my
moments in life where I kinda felt the same way.  Just sayin'...

But if you really want to snap out of that kind of funk--which I
know is NO FUN to suffer through--then think of it this way:  Were
it only us guys around here life would be WAY less interesting, to
say the least.

Some may argue against my firmly held belief that women are
hard-wired to admire masculine leadership and WANT to follow it. 

Far be it from me to presume I can persuade every guy on Earth
to accept that.

That said, however, I do invite you to consider three shreds of
truth that have been put to the test time and again: 


  1)  I've yet to meet any woman who considers herself feminine,
  actually likes men and doesn't agree that a man should lead. 


  2)  You'll never meet a man who hates women, blames them for
  all of his problems and/or views his own fortunes with them as
  "hopeless" who has a high quality woman by his side.  (And I
  don't use the word "never" in context like this very often.)


And then, of course there's this:


   3)  If you close your world to real, live women, you're going to
   end up drilling a hole in your mattress (if you haven't done so
   already).  That would be sad.


If there's any value I can possibly have to you, let it start with
encouraging you to give women you meet in the future an honest,
fair chance to please you, regardless of whatever pain women of
lower character may have handed you in the past.  

There are black-hearted people of both genders and those who have
hearts of gold.  Whatever the black-hearted ones are up to is NOT
the golden-hearted people's fault.

For sure, don't let a woman tell you that "all men are dogs" when
you don't have a collar around your neck and a craving for "Milk
Bones" just yet.

And likewise, give the next decent woman you meet a fair shake.
