[X&Y] Follow Up: What We're Going To Do With The Podcast

FOLLOW UP TO LAST WEEK'S POLL QUESTION ABOUT THE PODCAST
As I mentioned briefly last week, results were about 60/40 in favor of
rebranding The Chick Whisperer Podcast.
Here's the thing, though. Most of you who said "yes" didn't elaborate.
That's cool. After all, I didn't ask for elaboration.
But perhaps weirdly, some of you who said "yes" actually mentioned a change
OTHER than the name. You were fine with the name, but thought it was time
for new intro/outro music.
Meanwhile, many of you who were among the "no" contingent DID elaborate,
citing some of the more compelling reasons we should stick to the status quo.
Chief among those were, "it's a kick ass name, and has been for like nine years"
and, "holy mama, dude...the show is already wildly successful. Nothing is
broken, so what are you thinking?"
Indeed, just in time for this poll question, The Chick Whisperer Podcast is
sitting 13th under "sexuality" on iTunes this morning as I write this.
Given that the show is perceived as being mostly for single, heterosexual
men, that's crazy good. Every other show ahead of it targets both genders,
regardless of relationship status or sexual orientation.
Yeah, whatever... So what's going to happen?
1) First off, there's brand new intro/outro music already finished, and it
will debut with the next episode, #92.
In my arrogant opinion, it couldn't be more perfect. It captures the vibe of
the show while somehow feeling like the evolution of the old Match Game
TV game show music we've used for years.
Don't worry...it's still very different, I promise. But you'll know what I mean
when you hear it. And it won't sound, for lack of a better description, swishy
and douchey like 80% of the other podcasts out there.
Oh, and Edroy Odem is still large and in charge. No worries there, either.
2) The name of the show will remain The Chick Whisperer...for now.
It's too strong a brand to trifle with, at least until the perfect name comes
along to take its place. Everyone seemed to echo that.
But yes, when that name surfaces we'll not hesitate to make the switch.
It'll have to broaden the scope of perception while still being every bit as
picture perfect as The Chick Whisperer.
Someone mentioned that "whispering" feels a bit dated, and I can see that
point. But the fact remains: the new name has to rock, and it can't be
taken by another show already, either.
By the way, when and if the show is renamed, the album art will remain
instantly recognizable. Only the words will change, not the design. Think
of what happened when United Airlines and Continental merged. They
basically wrote "United" on Continental's livery. Same idea.
3) Guests and topics will continue to broaden more toward what we
as men care about in general. That said, the show will still cover a lot about
getting better with women.
You've already seen the shift happen lately, and the feedback so far has been
good.
There's no doubt that a bigger scope means more choices when it comes
to guests. That's a good thing, given that effective dating and sex experts
who've never been on the show before are getting harder to come by.
4) We've moved to a major, podcast-specific hosting platform. This
affected a spike in the show's exposure that continues to trend upward.
So there you have it. Your opinion mattered, as promised. A huge THANK
YOU to all of you who spoke up.
All that's left is to subscribe on iTunes, listen and leave a review if you're
so inclined. That latest episode is creating quite a commotion, by the way.
