THE DAY HAS COME: WE'RE CHANGING THE NAME OF THE
SHOW
SHOW
This morning I published a rare "announcement-cast" episode of The
Chick Whisperer. It's six minutes, and you can listen to it by clicking
on the links above. There's no bump music...I get straight to the point.
In it I reveal the new name of The Chick Whisperer Podcast from now
on, along with the reasons why and other details you'll need to know.
I've also transcribed the whole enchilada below for your reading
pleasure.
Everything's explained in there, of course, except for a few late-
breaking logistical bits: The new artwork, title and associated "official"
changes will go live sometime by Monday, as will a brand new episode.
(The topic is amazing, by the way.)
Here we go...
=====
How’s it going gentlemen? This is Scot McKay from X & Y
Communications with a special message announcing a very
positive change for the show.
Now, I don’t do announcement-casts very often at all, so obviously
something big is happening.
After nine and a half years of doing this podcast, it’s time to change
the name of the show.
This has actually been in the works for several months, and if
you’re subscribed to my e-mail newsletter you’ve already been in
on the discussion as I sent out a poll about this a couple of months
ago.
Now, there’s no doubt that The Chick Whisperer is a great name
that kind of rolls off the tongue nicely, and we’ll continue to make
the show searchable under that title.
Likewise, if you type in thechickwhisperer.com it’ll still work, but it
will transparently redirect to a new domain name.
But times have changed over the years, and the focus of the show
has evolved as well, which I’m sure you’ve noticed.
While we’re still all about being the best with women we can be,
there’s so much more to cover out there about being the best man
you can be in general…and not just single guys, but ALL men.
Combine that evolved direction with the simple fact that “whispering”
is feeling like a dated concept and it’s crystal clear that the show
has outgrown that name.
But since The Chick Whisperer is so well known, we absolutely
weren’t going to change the name until a new name that is JUST as
good was thought of.
That happened a week or so ago…it surfaced rather suddenly out of
nowhere, just as I suspected it ultimately would.
The new name of the show will be The Mountain Top Podcast,
representing the peak of manhood.
It’s VERY different, isn’t it? You may need some time to get used to
it.
Even I will.
But the more you think about it, the more perfect a name it is.
For starters, since the inception of X & Y On The Fly in 2006 we’ve
been borrowing the idea of the X & Y Headquarters being a mist-
enshrouded mountain top fortress.
So in a way, we’ve always been The Mountain Top.
But on a deeper and more meaningful level, what’s more motivating
and inspirational than reaching the peak of a mountain? Being at
the top is being at one’s best…the pinnacle.
All of that is aligned with being a great man by the subtitle “The Peak
Of Manhood”…
So that’s exactly the right message for “big four” men everywhere,
all without being just another show with the word “man” in the title.
We all know there’s enough of those already.
Also, changing the name to The Mountain Top means it’s now a show
every man can subscribe to with confidence, regardless of your
personal goals or relationship status.
I have to admit, even though this podcast has always brought plenty
to the table for married guys or men with girlfriends, The Chick
Whisperer really does sound like a gig for single guys.
The Mountain Top is clearly for all men, and that will allow the show to
grow in obvious ways and enable more guys to discover and enjoy it.
And importantly, there’s this… From now on, The Mountain Top is a
show that the most amazing and diverse guests will not simply agree
to be on, they’ll want to be on.
The Chick Whisperer has seemed like a bit of a culture clash for some
solid guests in the past, and I know that for a fact.
So since we’ve had just about every solid dating expert on already and
have expanded the scope accordingly, it just makes sense to remove
that potential barrier… especially given how the message of the show
is-- as it always has been--really all about character and personal
excellence.
I have to tell you, we’re already seeing this theory turn into reality
before our very eyes.
The next three [Ed. Note: make that four] new episodes are already in
the books and ready for editing. They feature higher-profile co-hosts
than ever who are going to rock your world—each of whom is well-
known OUTSIDE of dating coach circles.
And yes, they were all told about the rebranding at the time of booking,
and it was definitely well-received.
Now, ALL of this said, the impact to the actual flow of the show itself
will be minimal. I’m sure that’s great news to you.
After all, I know you guys are all here for a reason, I respect and
appreciate you immensely, and I’m therefore not going to mess with
what put the show on the map to begin with.
The discussion-oriented format will remain the same, my style isn’t
going to change (unless it’s for the better due to experience), and
even the rebranded intro/outro music will be otherwise the same.
You’ll also notice a very evolutionary approach to the album art. We
want to make sure the show is still immediately recognizable to
everyone on iTunes, Stitcher and elsewhere, so basically we’re doing
something similar to what United and Continental did when the two
airlines merged several years ago.
Just like they kept Continental’s paint job, but wrote UNITED on the
planes, we’re keeping the style, font and colors of the album art and
simply changing the words.
For the next couple of months, we’ll still keep the image of the sexy
blonde on the album art also…AND the title of the show will have a
parenthetical reference to the former name…again, to make sure the
show is still effortlessly easy to find.
So that’s about it. If you have any feedback, questions or suggestions,
write me at scot@mountaintoppodcast.com and I’ll write you back.
Which reminds me, YES…the new show notes page will be:
www.mountaintoppodcast.com.
BUT, again…rest assured you can still type www.thechickwhisperer.com
and it’ll redirect transparently. [Ed. Note: The actual domain migration
will be on Monday, according to my web guy.]
There’s no plan to retire the old domain, so it’ll never 404 on you.
Oh…and one more thing. You KNOW it. There’s absolutely going to
be a Mountain Top Summit coming up in the future. How badass is that?
Back to your regularly scheduled programming next time…Until I talk to
you again soon, this is Scot McKay from X & Y Communications. Be
good out there.
