TWO BULLS ON A HILL


I'll never forget the first time I ever heard the story I'm going
to share with you today.

It was told to me when I was about 22 by a guy who was probably
nearly 50, and who also happened to have a beautiful and very sweet
wife who flat-out ADORED him.

The story goes like this.

And old bull and a young bull are standing on a hill looking down
below at a valley full of cows, all of which were just grazing
away...as usual.

Soon, unable to contain himself, the young bull blurts out, "Oh
WOW, man!  Look at all those hot, sexy cows down there!  Let's RUN
down there and GET ONE!"

The older bull pauses for a second, then looks casually over at the
wide-eyed younger bull.

Slowly and calmly he responds, "I've got a better idea.  How about
we WALK down there and get THEM ALL?"

As funny as that joke is, it offers some valuable insight into why
women often prefer "older guys".

I'll give you a hint:  It's NOT simply because they've had more
birthdays.

If you've ever watched the wildly popular TV show "Mad Men", you've
seen the key principle we're talking about here played out on every
episode.

If you HAVEN'T seen the show, the first four seasons are available
as "instant downloads" on Netflix.

Anyway, at the fictional Sterling-Cooper ad agency where the show
is set there are some "young bulls" like salesguy Pete Campbell and
some "older bulls" like Don Draper, the Creative Director.

And just like in the story, the "young bulls" may THINK they've got
some smooth moves, but they usually just cause the women to roll
their eyes.

And on the occasions they DO see some minor success with women,
they tend to make VERY costly mistakes.

Meanwhile, the likes of Don Draper truly ARE smooth with the
ladies, and are for the most part careful and deliberate in their
dealings with them.

Now for those of you who watch Mad Men, make no mistake.  I'm not
at all advocating that anyone become a cheating womanizer per se
like most of the characters in the show.

What I'm calling attention to is the general DEMEANOR of the Don
Drapers of the world as opposed to the Pete Campbells.

There's a maturity there that straight-up PAYS OFF when it comes to
creating attraction and managing relationships with women.

The "older bulls" have experience which has caused them to learn
EXTREMELY valuable lessons on what will work with women as opposed
to what will fail miserably.

At the very baseline, they know that if you RUN at a woman like,
well...a bull in a china shop, you'll freak them all out and cause
them all to run away.

But if you move more deliberately and gracefully, you'll put them
at ease and come off like a man who's in control of both himself
and the situation.

And that's the moral of the story of the "two bulls on a hill", for
sure.
