[X&Y] The Reckoning

THIS IS A RECKONING
Just this week I talked to one of you who, like many, has reached
the point in his life where enough is enough.
The days have turned into weeks, months, years and decades.
But still no joy.
Life hasn't worked out as planned. The career path isn't fulfilling, there
isn't much excitement to be had, and the right woman is nowhere in
sight.
Having mentioned Doc Holliday and Wyatt Earp in yesterday's
newsletter, I thought of the movie Tombstone.
The word reckoning sprang to mind.
The clearest definition I've seen is from author Dan Coffeen:
"A reckoning is a calculating of one's position within a situation and
taking the necessary steps, doing what needs to be done, not just
coming to terms but settling that which needs settling."
On the surface, it's an intimidating concept. It sounds like it could
possibly result in an aggressive act. At the very least, it would
involve swinging for the fence all-out.
But it's exactly what a lot of us as men need.
The more I think about the idea of a reckoning, the more it sounds
like an archetypal, even primal component of masculinity itself.
That which needs handling must get handled.
It's a moral imperative.
But you don't have to face the reckoning alone. Nor should you.
For nearly sixteen years now I've empowered men of character
to realize their true potential and witness their dreams come true
before their very eyes.
What you were born to do is there for you to do it. The woman
who believes in you awaits the opportunity to declare you her
hero.
Stand up. Look it in the eye. Settle that which needs settling...
all while never settling for less than you deserve:
